Trailer in Control : Do You Have The Right Cover ?

With a growing number of transport operators utilising Non-Owned Trailers, Brokers need to consider the correct cover to manage any potential risk for a Trailer damaged in the operator’s care or for any third party property damage resulting from the use of the Trailer/s.

Careful consideration needs to be given to the basis or any agreement upon which the Non-Owned Trailers are being operated.

Where the operator has accepted responsibility to insure the Non-Owned Trailer or where the Trailer is leased or hired to the operator, if cover is required, the Trailer needs to be specified as an insured item in the Policy Schedule.

In other circumstances cover is automatically provided under GT’s Policy for Legal Liability arising from the use of one Trailer attached to an insured prime/mover, limited to $50,000 any one event.

Cover is available by endorsement to increase the Limit of Liability and increase the number of attached trailers.

Cover is also available by endorsement to provide Loss or Damage and Legal Liability (Comprehensive) cover for Non-Owned Trailers for a specified Sum Insured and/or Limit of Liability.
